Adventure Travel Ethiopia

For Adventure Travel, Ethiopia may not be the first destination to come to mind. But it should be on your list of places you just have to see. Unusual sights, natural beauty and exotic wildlife are all waiting for you. In a hurry? Click here to move down for Adventure Travel Tours in Ethiopia Most of the attractions in Ethiopia are either historic, like the incredible stone churches in Lalibela or places where you can experience the wilderness. Ten national parks make it as great a destination for safari tours as

Kenya or Tanzania, though much less accessible. Most of the historical areas are to the north of the country, and the National parks are to the south. And that doesn't even touch on all the amazing cultural diversity in Ethiopia. There are many tribes and ethnic groups that still live as they have for thousands of years. The people of Ethiopia can be as fascinating as the landscape. Here are some of the best regions in Ethiopia to visit: Addis Ababa - Your Ethiopian Entry Point It's the capital city of Ethiopia, and where most international flights will arrive. As a pretty typical metropolitan area, its a lot like other major cities in Africa and not too adventurous at first glance. That doesn't mean there aren't some exciting things to do in Addis Ababa. The Merkato is the largest open-air market in all of Africa, and there is no better place to really immerse yourself in Ethiopian culture while you haggle for bargains. Explore the Past in Lalibela Rock Hewn Church in Lalibela The holy city of Lalibela is filled with deep antiquity, and is the destination for many a pilgrimage. Of particular interest are the 13 stone churches that date back to the 12th century. A stone church may not seem too interesting, but these churches are actually carved right out of the mountain ridge. They're like the famous carved temples in Petra, except that these monolith churches are actual free-standing buildings. In fact, they are the only free-standing carved churches in the world. Can you imagine the time it takes to carve an entire building out of solid rock? Completely awe inspiring.

Hot Springs, Arkansas

One of the most popular vacation destinations in the state is just a short drive from Little Rock. Take the day off, pack up the kids and head to Hot Springs. Hot Springs is great for families, couples and singles in the summer, winter and fall. The naturalist will find hours of enjoyment there, as will the historian, the antique shopper and the shopaholic. In other words, Hot Springs has something to offer everyone.

While the outskirts of Hot Springs have many things to offer visitors, most of the attractions can be found right on Central Avenue in Hot Spring's "historic district". In this central area one can find trails leading to a pleasant hike up the mountain, arts events (the documentary film festival being one), shopping, visitor information centers and the bath houses. There is no need to leave the main street if you are just taking a day trip! The Heated Springs One attribute of Hot Springs is obvious to anyone who hears the name. Naturally heated "thermal springs" can be found all over the city. While most of these have been covered, there are still a few active springs. Even in 50 degree weather you can feel (and see) the heat that these springs give off.

Things to See in South Africa

The Tugela Falls is a complex of seasonal waterfalls located in the Drakensberg mountain range, and is one of the many natural attractions in the Royal Natal National Park. It is generally accepted as the world’s second-tallest waterfall following Venezuela’s Angel Falls (though there are a number of compelling arguments that it may in fact actually be taller).

tugela falls waterfall in royal natal national park kwazulu natal south africa 2 The combined total drop of its five distinct free-leaping falls is 948 m (3,110 ft). At the right time of year, they are easily visible from the main road into the park, especially after a heavy rain. The source of the Tugela River (Zulu for ‘sudden’) is the Mont-Aux-Sources plateau which extends several kilometers beyond The Amphitheatre escarpment (itself a natural wonder of the area) from which the falls drop. drakensberg amphitheatre and tugela river There are two trails to Tugela Falls. The most spectacular trail is to the top of Mont-Aux-Sources, which starts at “The Sentinel” car park (through Phuthaditjhaba on the R57, approximately two hours drive from Royal Natal National Park via the R74, 90 minutes from Harrismith via the R712, or 80 minutes from Golden Gate Highlands National Park). From here it is a relatively easy climb to the top of the Amphitheatre, however it does take about 4.5 to 8 hours round-trip depending on fitness level. Access to the summit is via two chain ladders. This is the only day hiking trail which leads to the top of the Drakensberg escarpment. tugela falls waterfall in royal natal national park kwazulu natal south africa 3 Another trail to the foot of the Tugela Falls starts at Royal Natal National Park. The easy 7 km (4.3 mi) gradient up the Tugela Gorge winds though indigenous forests. The last part of the hike to Tugela Falls is a boulder hop. A little chain ladder leads over the final stretch for a view of the falls rushing down the amphitheater in a series of five cascades. More information...http://www.craiglotter.co.za

Stunning Natural Sights To See In The UK

The UK, and London in particular, is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world. People flock in from around the world to take in the sights and sounds in the UK all year round and even ‘little’ University towns like Cambridge are constantly filled with tourists. The main attractions for most people visiting the UK are the iconic buildings/architecture, history and yes, even the food (okay, perhaps more so the visit to the pubs serving said food) yet not as much attention is paid to some of the natural wonders on offer (and for free) in the UK – when encountered they tend to be seen as a bonus while en-route to other tourist attractions yet they’re some of the best sights on offer in the UK. I thoroughly recommend making the time to see at least one of these places and with the map below to help you plan when visiting, you have no reason not to! I’m going to let the pictures do the talking here… more information...http://handluggageonly.co.uk

The Bridges of Wonder is a natural phenomenon in the Rhodopi mountain. The name comes from a giant natural bridge that stretches over a small river, formed when an old cave was destroyed by an earthquake. User Contributed Pictures View The Bridges of Wonder Photo Gallery Submit Pictures of The Bridges of WonderLocation: The Stone Coast (Kamen Bryag in Bulgarian; known also as 'Yaylata') is situated about 60km north of Varna. It lies on the sea coast between the beautiful Kaliakra and Shabla capes. A village by the same name of Kamen Bryag (Stone Coast) is located 2km north of the Yaylata area. About this place: Although Yaylata is a bit far from the most popular resorts and hence is little known as a tourist attraction, it is one of the most amazing places along the Bulgarian coast. It represents an oval ledge, broken off the Dobrudja plate by the coast. The big cliffs make this area almost unaccessible, except via a few narrow paths among the rocks. About 40 caves can be found in the vertical cliffs hanging over the sea. Their smoothened walls and niches dug deep into the rock speak about the existence of an ancient cave settlement there. There are also remains of a stronghold dating back to Roman and Byzantine times. A 90 ha region is declared a protected archeological area. 10 Natural Wonders

You've heard the grim timelines: if warming continues, the Great Barrier Reef will be bleached by 2030; glaciers in the Swiss Alps, on Mt. Kilimanjaro, and in Glacier National Park will disappear in under 40 years; and Arctic ice melt will leave the North Pole bare and polar bears extinct. The immediacy of these timelines prompts flocks of curious eco-tourists to travel to environmentally

fragile areas. Tourism is both bane and boon: it can add strain to already distressed areas, but it can also provide income, which in turn can help preserve these wonders. In time for Earth Day, we spotlight 10 areas under threat—some lesser known than others—that can still be visited responsibly. Should you decide to plan a journey, we've recommended our favorite tour operator for each destination. In some cases the price tag may be higher than your average vacation, but consider it an investment in Mother Earth. The Threat: Like the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Belize Barrier Reef leads a tenuous existence. A section of the nearly 700-mile-long Mesoamerican Reef that reaches from Mexico to Honduras, the Belize reef suffered a severe bleaching in 1998, with a loss of 50 percent of its coral in many areas, including much of its distinctive staghorn coral. Since the bleaching, its decline has continued, due to global warming of the world's seas, agricultural pollution, development, and increasing tourism, which has given rise to more coastal development and an invasion of cruise ships. Get There: Go with Journeys International, founded by former conservation workers, on an 8-day "Cayo and the Caye" journeyinto Belize's rainforest that includes kayaking into river caves, a side trip Guatemala, a visit to the Mayan ruins at Tikal, and, finally, a three-day-stay on an island in the reef (from $2,825 per person, excluding airfare). Tour Esplanader
