Maltese Falcon to tour Asia

For those wanting to enjoy the ultimate in yacht charter, one of the world’s greatest yachts, Maltese Falcon, is coming to Asia. Sources close to Elena Ambrosiadou, the yacht’s owner, have confirmed that S/Y Maltese Falcon, an 88-metre Perini Navi featuring the world’s only DynaRig, will be arriving for two years of cruising and charter in the Asia-Pacific. The yacht is due to pass through the Panama Canal in the spring of 2014, and the plans call for a tour of the Pacific Ocean, Polynesia, Southeast Asia and the Andaman Sea. Maltese Falcon, built by American venture capitalist Tom Perkins, is perhaps the world’s most famous superyacht. The construction of the yacht, launched in 2006, was chronicled by Newsweek’s David A. Kaplan in the prize-winning business book Mine's Bigger: Tom Perkins and the Making of the Greatest Sailing Machine Ever Built. The DynaRig on Maltese Falcon consists of three freestanding masts with sails controlled by a touch screen system designed by Perkins. This allows the yacht to start sailing within minutes and to spend most of its time at sea under sail. Charter guests will also be able to enjoy a wide range of tenders and toys, including two 10-metre Pascoe RIBs, one Castoldi five-metre jet tender, two Laser sailing dinghies, plus windsurfers, jet skis, kayaks, wakeboards, fishing gear, and six full sets of Scuba dive gear. The interior design was by Ken Freivokh, who worked with Perkins to create a new American classic look, with fully customised furniture throughout. There is wireless Internet throughout the yacht via Satcom, with accommodation for up to 12 guests. Maltese Falcon can be chartered via Perini Navi USA for €350,000 per week.
