AlpineTrip as the name suggests was a journey through Alps – Austria, Switzerland, and France. However it was not only journey through alpine countries. It was also journey through myself. I was alone, driving car with tent and photo equipment in the trunk. Before the trip I planned every single day, and what is important I managed to accomplish whole the plan. The trip started from Grossglockner High Alpine Road - the most spectacular road of Alps located in Austria. The road was opened in 1935 and in my opinion it is miracle of architecture. The highest point of the road is Hochtor pass/tunnel and its altitude reaches impressive 2504 m above the sea. The road is a connection between Austria and Italy, but when you turn right on a crossing couple of kilometers after Hochtor you can drive to Pasterze glacier which lies in feet of Grossglockner – the Austrian highest mountain. Leaving Austria I drove to Grindelwald, small town in Switzerland, which is mainly known by 3 mountains rising above it – Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. I stayed here for couple of days moving through the mountains by Jungfaru Railway – gauge rack railway which runs 9 kilometers from Kleine Scheidegg to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch. Jungfrau Railway is mainly a tourist attraction, and it really helps to start trekking from high altitudes and omit long and tiring approaches. You can just start admire summits of Swiss Alps by leaving train on highly located stations.My next “stop” was Zermatt with symbol of Switzerland – Matterhorn rising above the town. Matterhorn is claimed to be one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, and I can agree with this. It divides two countries – Switzerland and Italy, and it is really impressive, especially from the Swiss side of the border. Finally I reached Chamonix in France. Everyone who ever would be there should take advantage of the trip to the summit of Aiguille du Midi. You can get there by cable car. This cable car was built in 1955 and for about two decades it was claimed the highest cable car in the world. Aiguille du Midi is one of the best tourist attractions in French Alps. It is also starting point for alpinists who want to climb Mont Blanc. I recommend getting there in the early morning, because after 10 am the top station of Aiguille du Midi is getting crowdy.
