Granite Mountain tour service

All genealogists benefit from it, but very few have ever visited the Granite Mountain Records Vault where 2.4 million rolls of microfilm are preserved. Thanks to new videos from FamilySearch, you can now tour the vault from your home. After viewing these videos I was energized about the work FamilySearch is doing to preserve our ancestors' records. In under ten years they expect to have the microfilm digitized and available for researchers. Many of the records are already available here. In this first video, you'll take a look behind the vault doors where 1) microfilm masters are preserved, 2) duplicates are created and shipped around the world, 3) microfilm is converted to digital images, and 4) digital images are preserved and upgraded as technology changes. In part two FamilySearch shows the microfilm-to-dital-media process and explains how they face major challenges in the conversion. In 2004 a cyclone struck the island of Niue, destroying all vital records. Part three shows how FamilySearch's efforts before the storm saved this town's history. For more information and pictures, click here. Another webinar for the ages by Thomas MacEntee today! The recording of today's webinar, "My Genealogy DO-Over - A Year of Learning from Research Mistakes" by the great Thomas MacEntee, is now available to view for free at www.FamilyTreeWebinars.com for a limited time. Lots of great comments: Wonderful! I really enjoy hearing Thomas speak. I'm so glad he admits his past bad habits. I think pretty much every genealogist started out doing things wrong. And now he's leading us to do it right. Thomas laid out a clear roadmap for how to do a reset and restart your genealogy to exploit everything you've learned about capturing accurate information and citing sources -- "if only I knew then what I know now." In addition to the roadmap, he has so many useful tools, including his facebook group specifically for a do-over. Even if you don't want to do a complete reset, there are so many ideas and tools in this webinar, you will find something that will recharge your research. Legacy gives the BEST webinars ever. And today's was one of the best of the best.
