The northern stretch of the Kohala coastline, one of the most historic areas in the State of Hawaii, holds and handful of treasures worth trekking to explore. Highlighted in this section is a day’s driving tour with three major sites, a few notable asides and information on a handful of tour guided activities. Named after its dominating geological feature, Kohala volcanic mountain is the oldest of the five volcanoes that make up Hawaii Island. You will be awed by this visually sweeping coastline and its broad range of natural habitats, features and landscapes. Within only an 11-mile distance, rainfall averages range from only 5 inches to more than 150 inches annually, creating vast diversity in the area’s vegetation and topography.
